Day 3 - Visit of local villages and the Islands of the Sun and Moon on the Lake Titicaca

The day starts with a visit to the community of Zampaya, at the northern tip of Copacabana peninsula. We have magnificent views of the Lake Titicaca from the road to Zampaya. From Zampaya we continue to the small port of Yampupata, where we board a motor boat and continue our tour on the Island of the Sun. Here we visit inca ruins of Pilkokaina, Yumani and Chinkana, the latter about 3 km from the lovely port of Challapampa. We continue with our boat to Island of the Moon and visit the Temple of the Moon (Iñak Uyu). Then we return to mainland and back to Copacabana, where we spend another night.

Day 4 - Drive from Copacabana to Apa Apa forest reserve via Chulumani, visiting Chacaltaya

Early in the morning we bid farewell to Copacabana and return to El Alto, here we start to gradually climbing towards Chacaltaya. The road continues to rise gently until it gets to the base of the Chacaltaya massif, here it becomes narrow and rocky, and it starts to climb sharply in a series of hairpin curves towards the Club Andino Lodge at 5262 m. From Chacaltaya we drive to the Apacheta Chucura pass, where the Choro Inca trail starts at 4880 m (16010 f). From here we continue to the Cumbre pass and start a long descent towards Chulumani. Along the way the road descents more then 3500 m (11482 f), thus there is a drastic change in scenery and vegetation; starting surrounded by snow-capped mountains with barely any vegetation at all we end up at a humid tropical valley with tropical flora and fauna. Eventually we arrive to Chulumani, from where it is only few minutes more to Apa Apa forest reserve.
