The day starts with early departure for Cochabamba; we climb up to El Alto and start our relatively comfortable journey driving south east. The road to Cochabamba takes us along the Altiplano, passing through small communities and several larger towns. Eventually the road has to cross the Andes in order to reach the Cochabamba valley. However just before we start to climb into the Cordillera Azanaques we make a short stop to inspect some old burial structures (Chullpas). The road then climbs through the mountains over several passes to the altitude of 4500m. There are some amazing sceneries along the way, there are strange rock formations, old churches and cemeteries, desolate mountain terrain and deep cañons. The road passes through several indigenous communities and local peasants can be seen at work. Eventually we arrive to the village of Bombeo at 3800m, here the road starts to descent into the Cochabamba valley and if the visibility is good we have excellent view of the valley and the surrounding mountain scenery. After numerous curves the road reaches the bottom of the valley, which we follow all the way to Cochabamba, Bolivia’s third largest city, and probably the city with the best climate.
